Hibernian have signed Wales winger Rabbi Matondo on a contract until the end of the season, with the option of another year.

The 26-year-old arrives as a free agent after a short spell in Norway. He impressed on trial at Easter Road before earning the deal, according to BBC Sport.

Matondo is the first signing for new Hibs head coach Marink Reedijk. Reedijk replaced David Gray last month and took a close look at Matondo during the club’s training camp in La Manga in Spain.

A winger, a wide attacker who makes chances from the flanks, Matondo knows Scottish football well. He spent nearly four years at Rangers and made 70 appearances for the Ibrox club, scoring eight goals.

Around two-thirds of those games came in the Scottish Premiership, Scotland’s top division. All but one of his eight Rangers goals came in that league, including one against Hibs.

Matondo left Rangers in the summer and joined Norwegian side Brann. He departed in August after five months. His earlier career also took in Schalke in Germany, Stoke City in England, Cercle Brugge in Belgium and a loan spell at Hannover.

For fans, this means instant familiarity. Matondo has pace and direct running, and he has already shown he can score in this league. Hibs supporters will remember his name from the other side of the fixture list.

At international level, he has 15 Wales caps, the most recent in 2025. His only Wales goal so far came in a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan last year.

Hibs have moved early to back their new manager. Matondo has a point to prove, and Easter Road gives him the stage.
