Elsbeth Adds Uzo Aduba, Tyne Daly and Christine Ebersole for Season 4
Uzo Aduba, Tyne Daly and Christine Ebersole are joining Elsbeth for Season 4, with new episodes starting this week.
The casting was reported by Variety on Oct 7. Season 4 premieres on CBS on Thursday, Oct 8, with new episodes to follow each week. That timing puts the launch one day after the casting news.
Aduba will guest-star, meaning she appears for a limited run rather than as a full-time cast member, as Allegra Miller. Miller is described as a proud New Yorker fighting developers to keep her home. The description centres on housing and neighbourhood roots. Developers here means property firms looking to redevelop homes.
Daly will also guest-star as Helen Adler. Adler is described as a dedicated birder, meaning a keen birdwatcher, who ruffles feathers when her flock is threatened. The description centres on her birding circle and what happens when it is under pressure.
Ebersole takes a recurring role, meaning she appears in more than one episode without joining as a regular, as Elsbeth's mother. The part puts a family member for the central character on screen. It adds a personal thread alongside the week-to-week cases.
Carrie Preston returns as Elsbeth for the new season. Elsbeth is a CBS crime drama, meaning a series that follows criminal cases. It is a spinoff, meaning a show that grew out of characters first seen elsewhere, from The Good Wife and The Good Fight. The series is produced by CBS Studios.
The new season airs at 9/8c, meaning 9pm Eastern and 8pm Central, in a new time slot on CBS, according to CBS via Facebook. The 9/8c label is standard US broadcast shorthand for the evening schedule. A weekly broadcast means one new episode arrives at the same time each Thursday. Viewers can find it in that slot from Oct 8.
For viewers, this means three distinct starting points for the new run. Allegra's fight to stay in her home is street-level and personal, while Helen's birding life is close-knit and protective. A mother brings family history into view. All three are set to appear during Season 4 as it opens from Oct 8.
