AFC Richmond is staying put. Roy Kent is moving on. And Ted Lasso is stepping back.

The Season 4 finale, episode 10 titled “The Departing Lass”, closes the run in one busy episode. Apple TV Press describes the finale with the line “Big changes in bunches.” Apple TV Press

It opens with a celebration of life for Mae, owner of the team’s favourite pub, the Crown & Anchor. She died while supporting the Lady Greyhounds in episode nine. The story reaches the finale after a six-week time jump. The Hollywood Reporter

The ownership fight takes centre stage at a shareholders’ meeting, meaning a formal vote by the club’s part-owners. Zelda confirms she spent the season secretly buying Richmond shares. Rebecca and Higgins answer with a turnabout involving Zelda’s assistant.

It leaves Zelda and Rebecca locked at 49 percent each. Mae breaks the deadlock. She left her two percent stake in Richmond to Rebecca, which ends the takeover threat. Zelda’s bid was not driven by anger. Decider

The dugout changes too. Ted asks to be demoted to assistant manager. He hands the women’s head coach job to Alice. Roy accepts an offer to become Chelsea’s head coach but insists on finishing Richmond’s season first.

The personal news lands quickly. Roy tells Ted, Beard, Higgins, Nate and Alice that Keeley is pregnant. He says he fears being a bad father. Later, while clearing out his office, he finds a note from Ted saying he will be a great dad, left with one of Ted’s little green Army men.

Ted faces a hard talk at home. He first lies to his son Henry about how Ted’s own father died. He then tells him the truth in a conversation held off screen. Elsewhere, Rebecca proposes to her boyfriend Matthijs.

There is also a new voice over the titles. Brandi Carlile took over the theme song from Marcus Mumford for the finale. Variety

Season 4 made its global debut on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, with one episode followed by new episodes every Wednesday. Apple TV Press Apple had renewed the comedy in March 2025 with Jason Sudeikis set to return as star and executive producer. The return added Tanya Reynolds with a different coaching style at Richmond, while co-creator, star and executive producer Brendan Hunt has spoken about bringing the show back.

For viewers catching up, this means Richmond ends the season with its ownership settled, its women’s team under a new head coach and its men’s former coach bound for Chelsea.
