Samantha Sloyan is taking on one of horror's most feared mothers.

Sloyan plays Margaret White, the religious and antagonistic mother of Carrie White, in Mike Flanagan's Carrie miniseries, a short series designed to tell its story in one run. Flanagan is the writer, director and showrunner on the adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 novel, according to Variety.

Summer Howell stars as Carrie White. In this version, Carrie has lived in seclusion with her mother and enters public high school after her father's sudden, untimely death, according to Amazon MGM Studios. The studio describes the show as a bold, timely and surprising reinvention of King's coming-of-age story.

Amazon MGM Studios lists Carrie as an Original Series with a launch date of 7 October 2026, according to Amazon MGM Studios. The cast also includes Matthew Lillard, Rahul Kohli and Kate Siegel.

For Sloyan, the role continues a long working relationship with Flanagan. The pair first collaborated on the 2016 film Hush. She went on to appear in his series The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher, and played Bev Keane in Midnight Mass.

The off-screen ties run deep. Siegel, Flanagan's wife and frequent collaborator, has been Sloyan's best friend since the two were in their twenties. Sloyan was born to two character actors and built her own career with recurring roles on Scandal and Grey's Anatomy before becoming a familiar face in Flanagan's ensemble.

This Carrie has history to live up to. King's novel was previously adapted into a 1976 film by Brian De Palma, with Piper Laurie as Margaret White. Flanagan has form with King, having previously turned the novels Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep into feature films.

What makes this stand out is the casting logic. Flanagan keeps returning to actors he trusts, and Sloyan has often played characters who hide control behind belief. Margaret White fits that pattern. For viewers, it means a new Carrie shaped less as a remake and more as a fresh start with a very familiar team.
