The central role of misfit high-schooler Carrie White goes to Summer H. Howell. Siena Agudong stars as Sue Snell as a series regular, meaning she appears across the season, while Alison Thornton also co-stars. Prime Video describes the story as following Carrie at school and at home. Prime Video
Margaret, Carrie's mother, brings a long screen history with her. Piper Laurie earned an Oscar nomination for playing the part opposite Sissy Spacek as Carrie in the 1976 film. Julianne Moore and Patricia Clarkson have also played Margaret in later screen versions. The Hollywood Reporter
Mike Flanagan, who made the new series for Prime Video, said Sloyan was his only choice for Margaret. It continues a steady working relationship. Sloyan has collaborated with Flanagan on The Haunting of Hill House, The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Many viewers first met her as Beverly 'Bev' Keane in Netflix's horror miniseries Midnight Mass, a drama told in a single limited run of episodes. She joined Grey's Anatomy in Season 11 in 2015 as Dr Penelope 'Penny' Blake. Sloyan also has a small role in Flanagan's upcoming Exorcist film.
The run spans eight episodes. That count frames a complete school year of pressure for Carrie, from classroom cruelty to conflict at home.
For fans, this means a familiar face in a new chair. Sloyan has often played firm believers inside Flanagan's worlds. Here that conviction moves inside the White house, into a mother and daughter story.
