Lucio Fulci's 1981 horror film The Beyond is to be remade in English as the first production from a new partnership between Hangtime International Pictures and Severin Films, Variety reported on 8 October 2026. The deal pairs Hangtime and Severin. It is built to find genre films with remake potential and develop them for cinemas, streaming platforms and disc.

The original The Beyond centres on a woman who buys a Louisiana hotel where a murder once took place and which may cover a gateway to hell. It was written by Dardano Sacchetti, Giorgio Mariuzzo and Fulci. Released in Italy as '...E tu vivrai nel terrore! L'aldila', it is the second film in Fulci's Gates of Hell trilogy, a three-film series linked by theme.

The Beyond will be the first of several remakes planned over the next two years under the Hangtime-Severin agreement. In plain terms, the two companies have acquired the right to make a new English-language version, rather than simply reissuing the old film. That right was secured for them by Manlio Gomarasca, Severin's correspondent in Italy, and Claudia Marra, sales manager at RTI Mediaset International.

On the company side, Hangtime is led by co-chief executive Frank Murray, while Severin is led by co-founder, president and chief executive David Gregory. Hangtime was launched by Murray and producer Frida Torresblanco, Deadline reported in May 2024. Producer Jessica Malik, whose credits include She Will, joined Hangtime as head of development in July 2024, Variety reported, a role that finds stories and shapes scripts before filming begins.

Severin Films describes itself as a company creating, rescuing and releasing provocative cinema since 2006. The partnership covers three outlets at once: theatrical, meaning cinema release, streaming, and physical media, meaning manufactured discs such as DVD and Blu-ray for shops and collectors. No cast, director or release date for The Beyond has been disclosed.

For viewers new to the title, this means the starting point is an established horror story now lined up for a fresh telling. The announcement covers rights and plans only, with creative details to follow.
