More than a third of players bought Marvel's Wolverine on disc.

Around 35% of launch sales were the physical disc version, according to Ampere sales data. The research firm puts September sales at about 2.16 million units, making Wolverine the second-best-selling PlayStation 5 game for the month behind EA Sports FC 27. Video Games Chronicle

That total is an estimate. Sony has yet to announce an official sales figure for the game. IGN

Marvel's Wolverine launched beginning 15 September 2026 as a PS5 exclusive. PlayStation Blog It is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure game, meaning one story played alone from start to finish, built around the long-running comic book character.

The split between disc and download changes sharply by market. Across Europe, 51% of launch sales were the boxed version, according to GSD data, which tracks game sales in the region.

In the United Kingdom, two-thirds of sales were digital. That is a download bought from an online store and kept on the console, with no disc needed. In France, the balance flipped. More than two-thirds of sales there were physical.

Wolverine was not the only September release still moving boxes. Silent Hill: Townfall took over 45% of its September sales from the boxed version. The Blood of the Dawnwalker on PS5 was 36% physical in September, while Onimusha was 30% physical.

The numbers land in a market where discs are now the minority. Only seven PlayStation games have sold more than 100,000 physical copies in the United States this year, according to an analyst speaking in July.

PlayStation also leaned into the launch with hardware. It released a Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 console bundle and accessories in yellow and metallic “adamantium” colours alongside the game. Pre-orders for the bundle and accessories opened on 19 August at 10am local time.

What makes this stand out is the gap between countries. Downloads drive most big launches now. Yet for Wolverine, more than one in three buyers still wanted a case on the shelf, and in parts of Europe that choice was the majority.
