Loewe Craft Prize heads to Milan for 10th edition

Loewe Foundation Craft Prize will celebrate its 10th edition in Milan.
Loewe, the Spanish fashion house, will hold the anniversary ceremony in the Italian city on April 11, the night before Milan Design Week opens. The move was reported by Women's Wear Daily. It is the first time the prize's travelling format has stopped in Milan.
Milan Design Week, the city's annual festival of furniture, product design and installations, will run from April 12 to 18. The Loewe Foundation, the house's cultural arm, will open a large exhibition on the first day of the week to mark a decade of the prize. It will run through April 28. All 30 shortlisted works will be shown in Milan.
Time is short for makers who want to take part. Submissions for the 2027 prize close on Oct. 15. The contest is open to professional artisans aged 18 or older, of all nationalities, according to the Loewe Foundation. Entries can come from individuals or from groups working as a collective.
Works must have been made in the last five years. They must be one of a kind, handmade or partly handmade, and not have won another prize. They must show artistic intent as well as technical skill. Registration is in English, with two to five photographs of the work, an optional video and a short statement about the idea behind it.
An expert panel will choose a shortlist of 30. It will judge entries on originality, artistic vision and merit, precise execution, material excellence, innovative value and a distinct authorial mark. The final jury for 2027 brings together 15 people from design, architecture, journalism, criticism and museum curatorship, including 2026 winner Jongjin Park. The winner will receive €50,000.
The prize was created under former creative director Jonathan Anderson and first awarded in Madrid in 2017. Since then it has travelled to London, Tokyo, Paris, Seoul, New York and, most recently, Singapore. The ninth edition went to South Korean ceramic artist Jongjin Park. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who joined Loewe as creative directors in 2025, served on the jury for the first time for that edition.
The Loewe Foundation was set up as a private cultural foundation in 1988 by Enrique Loewe. It is directed by Sheila Loewe, the founder's daughter. It was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts by the Spanish government in 2002. Its online archive, The Room, holds more than 3,200 works by prize alumni.
What makes this stand out for a general audience is the shop window it gives to making. Fashion prizes often go to designers. This one goes to potters, carvers, weavers and metalworkers, and puts their finished objects in front of a design-week crowd.
