Italy’s public broadcaster RAI has bought three women-fronted dramas from distributor Beta Film.

The deal was reported on 9 October, just ahead of Mipcom, the international market where broadcasters shop for programmes to license in their own territories, according to Variety. The slate comprises Barton Vet, A Guilty Affair and Mozart Mozart.

Barton Vet is a 12-episode U.S.-Canadian procedural drama, meaning each episode centres on a self-contained case. It stars Georgina Reilly as Dr. Kate Barton, a vet who takes over her father’s country clinic six months after his death. The series is directed by Felipe Rodriguez and produced by Shaftesbury in association with BYUtv and Beta Film. Beta Film also lists the show among the titles it is taking to Mipcom, according to its official site.

A Guilty Affair is a four-part French drama. It follows a high school principal searching for her missing daughter. The search is personal. Directed by Sandra Perrin, it stars Helene De Fougerolles, Florent Peyre and Vittoria Di Savoia, and is produced by France Télévisions, Episode Productions, Be-Films and RTBF, with Beta Film handling international sales, meaning the sale of broadcast rights country by country.

Mozart Mozart is a six-episode German period drama. It centres on Maria Anna Mozart, the sister of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Directed by Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim, it stars Havana Joy Josephine Braun and Eren M. Güvercin. It is produced by Story House Pictures in co-production with ARD (WDR/SWR/ARD Degeto Film), ORF and Dreaming Sheep Company, with world sales handled by Beta Film and Bavaria Media.

What links the three is simple. Each puts a woman at the centre of the story, across three very different genres: a contemporary animal practice, a missing-person mystery and an 18th-century music world.
