Spain's most persistent tax inspector is clocking back in — years earlier.

Carmen Machi returns as Sara Santano in a six-part second season of Celeste, the Movistar Plus+ original. Season 2 is a prequel, meaning it is set before the events of Season 1, and revisits the one case Santano never solved, Variety reported ahead of Mipcom.

That case centres on Figueroa, an Argentine soccer star. His tax file is described as Santano's only professional failure. It is a sharp turn from Season 1, where Santano chased a Latin music star she believed owed €20 million ($22.4 million) in tax in Spain.

Viewers will not wait long to see it. Season 2 will have its world premiere on Oct. 26 at Serielizados Fest in Barcelona. From there it heads to Mipcom, the international television market in Cannes where distributors sell shows to buyers from around the world.

International sales are being handled by Imagina Sales, the distribution arm of The Mediapro Studio. The company will bring the new season to market as buyers gather in France. Season 1 already sold beyond Spain, launching on Arte in France and Flow in Argentina.

Behind the camera, the team is largely set. Season 2 is produced by Movistar Plus+ and 100 Balas, directed by Elena Trapé and written by creator Diego San José alongside Oriol Puig and Fernando Delgado-Hierro. San José and Trapé discussed the new season with Variety ahead of the market.

The show arrives with momentum. Season 1 won Spain's Ondas and Feroz awards for best comedy, and took best series and best actress for Machi in the International Panorama section at Series Mania. It later won best international comedy series at the Italian Global Series Festival. Movistar Plus+ bills the show as a tax thriller, a thriller tributario, built around audits, paper trails and one inspector near retirement.

What makes this stand out is the swap. Most returning shows push forward. Celeste goes back. For fans, this means a fresh case with the same lead, and a look at how Santano became the inspector from Season 1.
