Nintendo chief says GTA VI on Switch 2 is Rockstar's call

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard says a Switch 2 version of Grand Theft Auto VI is a decision for Take-Two and Rockstar.
"It’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar," Pritchard told Variety, adding she had "nothing to announce on my end at this time" GameSpot. The comments were published on 9 October 2026. No version has been confirmed.
Grand Theft Auto VI has a release date announced as 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That Thursday launch covers Sony and Microsoft’s current consoles only. Rockstar had earlier given a release date announced as 26 May 2026 Rockstar Games.
Rockstar describes the game as a single-player experience, with pre-orders announced to begin on 25 June 2026 Rockstar Games. The studio has released Grand Theft Auto on Nintendo hardware before. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a collection of three older titles, was released on Nintendo Switch in 2021.
The question has weight because Switch 2 is selling fast. The console was released in June 2025, and sales have passed 23 million units to date Variety. Third-party publishers, companies that make games for someone else’s console, decide case by case whether to support it.
One large publisher already has. Microsoft’s Activision is bringing Call of Duty back to Nintendo consoles for the first time in more than a decade. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Switch 2 this autumn alongside releases on Xbox and PlayStation systems.
Pritchard also discussed The Legend of Zelda in the same interview. Nintendo will release a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary. A live-action Legend of Zelda film made with Sony is set to debut in April.
She took over in January. Pritchard succeeded Doug Bowser as head of Nintendo of America, so she had served for just under a year at the time of the interview.
For players, this means the wait continues. GTA VI is coming to two platforms in November. Anything beyond that rests with Rockstar.
