Paramount+ has renewed Avatar: Seven Havens for Seasons 3 and 4 on the day the animated series launched.

The two-season pickup, covering Books 3 and 4 — the franchise's word for seasons — was announced onstage at the show's New York Comic-Con panel, according to Variety. The panel coincided with launch day for the series on 9 October.

Seven Havens centres on Pavi, a young Earthbender who becomes the new Avatar after Korra. That handover matters. Each Avatar is a new incarnation of the same hero, so Pavi picks up the story where Korra left it.

The series was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The pair serve as executive producers through Avatar Studios, and Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios produce the show.

The rollout is brisk. The first three episodes are available on Paramount+ now, according to Paramount+. Three additional episodes drop each Friday through 30 October. That weekly batch release means viewers get the opening season in four parts.

Paramount+ also ordered a second animated series, Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. It follows Water Tribe Avatar Kuruk, who lived three generations before Aang. The order looks backwards in the timeline while Seven Havens moves it forwards.

The New York Comic-Con session was billed as a behind-the-scenes look at Seven Havens with the series' creators and cast to celebrate its premiere, according to Animation Magazine. The convention, a large annual fan gathering in New York, often hosts first looks and cast appearances.

A two-season renewal is a renewal, meaning more episodes are commissioned before the current run ends. It gives the writers' room and animation crew a longer runway. Here it locks in Books 3 and 4 in one go.

For viewers, this means Pavi's story will not stop after its opening run. And with Kuruk in development, there will soon be two entry points: one after Korra, and one long before Aang.
