Sony hires YouTube executive Fede Goldenberg to lead Screen Gems

Sony Pictures has hired YouTube executive Fede Goldenberg to run Screen Gems, its division for horror, action and comedy films, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The news was published on 9 October 2026. Goldenberg will report to Sanford Panitch, president of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, the unit that oversees the studio's film labels.
Screen Gems is the Sony label that specialises in genre pictures, a trade term for films built around horror, science fiction or action, along with lower-cost comedies. Its credits include the Resident Evil and Underworld action-horror series and the comedy Easy A.
Goldenberg arrives from YouTube, where he was head of film and TV partnerships. He is Brazil-born and spent 15 years at the video platform. In total he has more than 20 years of experience across entertainment, technology and digital media.
His brief includes a widening of what Screen Gems will make. The label plans to add cinema releases from digital-native storytellers, meaning creators who first built large audiences online, including Curry Barker and Kane Parsons.
The job was previously held by Ashley Brucks. She led Screen Gems as president from 2023 and will now move into a producing role.
Brucks had joined Sony from Paramount, where she served as an executive vice-president, as reported by Deadline. She was due to start the Screen Gems job on 13 Nov of that year. Her appointment followed a search in which several other candidates were considered, according to Variety.
For fans, this means a familiar label with a new pipeline. Screen Gems has long been Sony's home for mid-budget scares and laughs. Under Goldenberg, expect more of those titles to start life with creators the cinema audience may already know from their phones.
