World Trigger Vol. 30 Tops Japan Book Chart as Comics Sweep Top 10

Daisuke Ashihara's World Trigger Vol. 30 has taken No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100. The chart was released on Oct. 8 and covers the tracking week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, according to Billboard. Comics filled every place in the top 10. Nine of those comics titles were new entries that week.
The new volume led where readers spend. It placed first for brick-and-mortar sales, the copies sold in physical shops, and first for e-books, the paid digital editions. Those two formats are counted separately before they are combined into the overall ranking.
The Book Hot 100 pulls four measures into one list. They are physical books, e-books, subscriptions including library loans, and social media buzz. Library loans capture borrowing through subscription and library services. Buzz tracks how much a book is being mentioned and shared online.
The rest of the top three were comics as well. Vol. 11 of the comic adaptation of Futsutsuka na Akujo dewa Gozaimasu ga entered at No. 2. It was a debut on the chart that week. BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX- Vol. 9 followed at No. 3.
The previous leader slipped down the table. Fuyumi Ono's Yumei no Kishi: Juni Kokuki fell to No. 12. It had held No. 1 for the two previous weeks.
For World Trigger, the result extends a run at the top. Vol. 29 also reached No. 1 on the Book Hot 100 in December last year. Vol. 30 also led Billboard Japan's Reiwa Books chart, a separate domestic ranking, according to Billboard Japan. That earlier Japanese report also noted the weight of new comics in the top 10.
There is a live date attached to these charts. Billboard Japan will hold its first annual awards ceremony for its book charts on Nov. 14. The event is organised around the same rankings that decide the weekly order.
What makes this stand out is the uniformity. Ten out of ten. For readers, it means the books being bought in shops, downloaded as e-books, borrowed through libraries and talked about online all came from the comics shelves that week.
