Kate Siegel was Carrie's narrator, captor and final killer all in one.

Her mystery role in Prime Video's Carrie is Adelaide, guardian of a group of young women who carry the TK gene, an inherited trait that gives Carrie the power to move objects with her mind. Siegel detailed the part in an interview published 9 October, after the Season 1 finale revealed Adelaide's full hand in the story Deadline.

Adelaide narrates several episodes. Her voiceover traces the history of women who held the TK gene before Carrie, framing Carrie's life as one chapter in a longer line.

She also shapes how that story is told. Adelaide acts as a narrator who moulds and frames events, and in the finale she is unmasked as the person interviewing survivors of the prom night fire.

Then she turns violent. Adelaide kills Carrie's mother Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan, and then goes after Carrie herself and Carrie's new friend Emaline, played by Thalia Dudek. By the end of the season, Carrie is recruited by a shadowy, organised collective of psychically powered women led by Adelaide, according to the finale breakdown Time.

Siegel said she built Adelaide from scratch with her husband and collaborator Mike Flanagan, the showrunner, meaning the person in charge of the series day to day Amazon MGM Studios. She said she was able to "make her whoever I wanted".

She also spoke about what drew her to the character. Flanagan has "never made me feel embarrassed about all the different sides of my personality, including my female rage and my female violence," Siegel said.

For viewers trying to piece it together, Siegel points to the frame around Adelaide's narration. She said viewers should ask who Adelaide is telling stories to and filming for, who the other girls in the room are, and who sent them to the prom and why.

Siegel did double duty on the series. She directed the episode titled "Social Studies".

She is now preparing her feature directorial debut, the horror-thriller Method, which she will also produce through her Legitimate Pictures banner. She next appears in Flanagan's The Exorcist: Martyrs, premiering 12 March 2027.

It continues a long working partnership. Siegel previously collaborated with Flanagan on Oculus (2013), Hush (2016), Gerald's Game (2017), The Life of Chuck (2024), The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher.
