Alison Thornton plays Chris Hargensen in Mike Flanagan's Carrie. The eight-episode series, an adaptation of Stephen King's novel Carrie, was released on Prime Video on Oct. 7, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It is the first reimagining of the book for the small screen, meaning television rather than film. Mike Flanagan and Stephen King serve as executive producers, meaning they oversee the show creatively, according to Amazon MGM Studios' press site. The series comes from Amazon MGM Studios for Prime Video.

The ensemble includes Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan. Joel Oulette plays Tommy Ross, Carrie's prom date in earlier versions of the story, according to Amazon MGM Studios. The central synopsis stays close to King's premise. After her father's sudden, untimely death, Carrie is thrust into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, according to Prime Video.

Thornton is a Vancouver native. Her earlier screen credits include Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, Dare Me and School Spirits. She also appeared in Fire Country, according to Amazon MGM Studios.

She knew the book. Thornton said she had read King's Carrie twice before auditioning for Flanagan's series. That familiarity carried into a role with a long screen history.

Chris Hargensen has been played three times before. Nancy Allen originated the part on screen, followed by Emilie de Ravin and Portia Doubleday in later versions. Thornton now takes the role into streaming television.

Early coverage listed Thornton's character as Christine. An Oct. 1 review in The Hollywood Reporter described Christine as a spoiled rich girl with family issues and insecurities that she redirects at the new kid. The more recent character breakdown identifies Thornton's role as Chris Hargensen.

Flanagan introduced the series with his first-ever San Diego Comic-Con appearance. He appeared alongside Thornton, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard as part of Prime Video's 2026 Comic-Con programme, according to Amazon MGM Studios. The panel put the young cast in front of fans months before release.

For fans, this means a familiar school hierarchy with a slightly shifted name badge. The function is recognisable. Chris remains the popular student who turns on the new girl.
