LaKeith Stanfield, Ben Mendelsohn Lead Molepeople

LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn will star in Molepeople, a horror film about a man who descends into abandoned tunnels beneath New York City and finds a twisted society living under the streets. Paramount has set the film for release on 27 Aug 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That date puts it in late summer.
Rob Savage will direct from a script by Nathan Elston, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Savage previously directed Host and The Boogeyman, according to Deadline. It is a straight horror setup.
Cameras are due to roll at the end of November or in early December in the UK, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Stanfield previewed the project during a special appearance at New York Comic-Con, according to Variety. The finalised schedule gives the production about nine months to post-production.
The film will be co-financed and co-produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount, meaning the two companies share the costs and the production work. Paramount will handle worldwide distribution, so it will organise the cinema rollout around the world, The Hollywood Reporter reported. It will receive a theatrical release, according to Variety.
On the Paramount side the project sits with Paramount Primal, a specialty label, a smaller focused unit, within Skydance's film division, according to Variety. Blumhouse merged with James Wan's Atomic Monster in 2024, according to Variety. Producers are Jason Blum, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules and James Harris, with Ryan Turek, Tracy Rosenblum, Elston and Savage as executive producers, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The project started life as an independent production. It moved to Paramount when Lifshitz and Margules created Primal, The Hollywood Reporter reported. In October 2024 it had been announced with Anthony Ramos attached alongside Mendelsohn, according to Deadline. Sales company Embankment had boarded that earlier version, according to ScreenDaily.
For fans, this means a familiar pairing renewed. Molepeople will be Stanfield's third film with Blumhouse after The Purge: Anarchy in 2014 and Get Out in 2017, according to Variety.
