Ten-man Tottenham Hotspur grabbed a 1-1 draw at Manchester United in the Premier League after a late equaliser from captain Dominic Solanke.

Spurs had to finish the game at Old Trafford with ten men. Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off, which in football means a red card and no replacement, leaving his team a player short.

The red card came after a clash with Luke Shaw. Shaw, United's full-back, was cautioned, a yellow card, for pushing Bentancur in the chest. Bentancur then retaliated by headbutting Shaw and was dismissed, according to match reporting ESPN.

Head coach Roberto de Zerbi said the sending-off was the right call BBC Sport. He did not hide from it. He said the decision to send off Bentancur was correct.

But de Zerbi also backed his player’s spirit. He said he liked that Bentancur showed a "reaction". He wants to see more of that attitude from his Tottenham squad.

Down to ten. Away from home. Still level. Solanke, wearing the captain’s armband, struck late to rescue the point for Spurs against the Red Devils Tottenham Hotspur.

Solanke called it a question of character. "The mentality is something to build on," he said after the match.

What makes this stand out is the way the point was earned. Playing short-handed on one of the league’s loudest away days tests legs and nerve, and Spurs held their shape long enough for their captain to deliver.

De Zerbi took charge at Tottenham ahead of this season. Last month he defended the club’s summer transfer spending, arguing the squad had what it needed to compete.
