Squadron 42 Hits Steam Wishlists Ahead of 2027 Launch

Squadron 42 is now on Steam as a wishlist page ahead of its planned Q2 2027 release.
Cloud Imperium Games opened the page on 10 October alongside a new trailer, giving players a way to track the game on Valve's storefront before launch, according to Eurogamer. The Steam listing is live now under app ID 4045720, via Steam.
Squadron 42 is the single-player spin-off of Star Citizen, a standalone story set in the same universe. It runs on StarEngine, the studio's own in-house technology built to power its large-scale space settings. The story is set in the year 2945, with the player enlisting as a rookie in the UEE Navy.
The game blends space combat with on-foot missions. That includes ground operations, stealth sections and quieter stretches spent with crewmates between flights. It is a structure aimed at general players, not only long-time flight-sim fans.
The cast is large. It includes Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Ben Mendelsohn, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis, John Rhys-Davies, Jonathan Bailey, Mark Strong, Alix Wilton Regan, Damson Idris, Liam Cunningham and Jane Perry. The line-up was confirmed alongside the trailer and wishlist news.
For anyone following the wait, this is a small but visible step. A wishlist page puts the game inside Steam's normal release system after years away from it.
The project has been in development for over a decade. It was most recently delayed to Q2 2027, with studio boss Chris Roberts saying it would be drowned out by Grand Theft Auto VI. That game is due for release in November, which IGN reported as the reason for the shift.
The wider Star Citizen project continues separately. Star Citizen, described as an open-world MMO universe simulator playable now on PC, topped US$1 billion in crowdfunding in May. Squadron 42 is listed for PC, with its release window now given as Q2 2027 rather than the broader TBA 2027 previously shown.
