GSC Game World has released a deep dive video for Cost of Hope, the first story expansion for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and the developer says it will arrive on 20 August for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S Eurogamer.

The expansion sends players back into the Zone — the irradiated exclusion zone around the Chornobyl nuclear plant that serves as the game's open-world setting — as Skif, a character already familiar to anyone who played the base game. The events of Cost of Hope run alongside the main Stalker 2 storyline rather than after it, and players will receive a notification on their in-game PDA (a handheld device the game uses for missions and map data) to access the new content once they have made enough progress in the main story.

The deep dive video, published through GSC Game World's press kit at stalker2.com, previews previously unexplored areas of the Zone: the Iron Forest and the Chornobyl Power Plant itself stalker2.com. The expansion also adds new weapons and gear, new hubs where characters gather and trade, fresh quests, and other uncharted locations the studio has not yet fully detailed.

GSC Game World has stated that Cost of Hope contains dozens of hours of content Eurogamer. That is a substantial add-on for a base game that already attracted attention for its size and ambition.

The expansion was first announced at an Xbox Partner Showcase in March Eurogamer. Since then, GSC Game World has gradually built out its promotional materials. The studio's official YouTube channel carries a "Release Date Reveal" video published on 27 July, alongside a story trailer titled "Between Duty And Freedom," both collected in a dedicated playlist YouTube.

For players, the 20 August date means the first major narrative addition to a game that launched after years of development delays tied in part to the war in Ukraine, where GSC Game World is based. The studio relocated some of its operations to Prague during development. Cost of Hope represents the first chance to see whether that difficult road to release has set up a steady pipeline of post-launch content.

The deep dive video is available now through GSC Game World's official channels. The expansion itself lands on all three platforms simultaneously — no staggered release, no exclusivity window.
