Catherine, Princess of Wales, swapped the official car for a contactless commute on Saturday. She rode the Elizabeth Line, the east-west railway across London, through central London with her daughter Princess Charlotte.

Catherine, 44, and Charlotte, 11, sat among other passengers in the same carriage. A fellow commuter spotted them seated together with their security detail close by. The sighting was reported on 11 October 2026 by Hello! Magazine.

They got off at Tottenham Court Road. The stop serves the shops, theatres and offices of the West End. It was a short, ordinary hop by Tube standards.

Catherine wore a burgundy outfit with matching heels for the outing. Charlotte, who is in Year 8 at Lambrook Preparatory School in Berkshire, travelled with her mother. The Sun described the trip as a girls' day out to central London.

No palace announcement preceded the journey. That is not unusual. Royal aides have said the Prince and Princess of Wales occasionally travel by Tube in a private capacity.

This was not Catherine's first time on the network. Far from it.

In May 2023, Catherine and her husband, William, Prince of Wales, rode the Elizabeth Line to Soho ahead of the coronation of King Charles III. It was their first journey on the line, which had opened the previous year. They travelled to the Dog & Duck pub in Soho and met staff at the tavern as it prepared for coronation celebrations, according to reports from the time.

A decade earlier, Catherine had marked the transport anniversary circuit. In 2013 she joined Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at Baker Street station. The visit marked the 150th anniversary of the London Underground.

Saturday's trip fits that pattern. Private travel. Public carriage. No ceremony at the ticket gates.

What makes this stand out is how normal it looked. Two passengers. One purple line across the capital. Other commuters sitting close by, with security kept discreet.

The Elizabeth Line runs from Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. It is run by Transport for London and is often packed on Saturdays with shoppers and families. For one journey, it carried two more.
