Tubi will bring R.L. Stine's The Babysitter to the screen in a new live-action film due in 2027, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 11 Oct 2026. The outlet shared the first teaser exclusively.

Live action means real actors on screen, rather than animation. It is a straight book-to-film move for one of Stine's longest-running teen horror properties.

The film draws on Stine's Babysitter novel series, which began in 1989. Three sequels followed: The Babysitter II in 1991, The Babysitter III in 1993 and The Babysitter IV in 1995. That gives the new production four books to pull from, spanning six years of publishing.

The story centres on Jenny, 16. She takes a babysitting job to pay for a place in a prestigious writing programme. She does it while a prowler is terrorising girls across town. Work first, fear second. That is the bind.

It is the fourth film in the ongoing partnership between Tubi and Stine. It is also the first in that run not taken from a short story in Stine's Nightmare Hour or Haunting Hour collections. The earlier films mined the anthologies. This one starts from a full novel series.

The timing is tight. The announcement landed two days after Pumpkinhead 2 arrived on 9 Oct. That film is now streaming on Tubi. Viewers who finish it will already find a hook for what comes next.

Blue Ice is producing the film. Jem Garrard writes and executive produces, with Trevor Calverleya directing. An executive producer helps steer a project creatively and financially, while the director runs the shoot day to day.

Executive producers are Lance Samuels, Joan Waricha, Jane Stine and Garrard. Producers are Dan Bernard, Yvonne Bernard, Tebogo Maila, Darren Cameron and Adam Friedlander. The credits list a joint team across Blue Ice and the Stine camp.

Tubi also has a third Stine adaptation on the way. Afraid of Clowns, based on a short from The Nightmare Hour, is set for 2027. Jem Garrard wrote and directed it. The cast includes Frankie Honey, Ava Ferrer, Azriel Dalman, Joe Moore and Jimbo.

The new film is teased at the end of Pumpkinhead 2. Tubi bills Afraid of Clowns as a Tubi Original horror movie that picks up after Redhaven survived the Pumpkinheads. In other words, stay through the credits.

For fans, this means two Stine scares in one year. One brings a full book series to live action. The other stretches a short story to feature length. Both land in the same streaming home.
