Fletcher is getting out of his cell and onto the road. A new stage version of the BBC prison sitcom Porridge will tour the UK in autumn 2027.

The adaptation is based on the television series by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. It will be adapted and directed by Samuel Freeman, according to details announced on 12 October, WhatsOnStage reported.

The tour is presented by Joshua Beaumont and Matthew Emeny for The Production Garden. The show will be performed by a cast of three. Casting and the rest of the creative team are still to be confirmed.

For fans, this means a stripped-back take on life inside Slade Prison. The original series followed habitual offender Norman Stanley Fletcher and his young cellmate Lennie Godber as they sparred with officers and counted down the days.

The tour opens at The Rondo Theatre in Bath on 9 to 11 September 2027. It then visits Salisbury Playhouse from 13 to 18 September and the Medina Theatre on the Isle of Wight on 21 September.

Further dates include The Lighthouse in Poole on 24 to 25 September and Lichfield Garrick from 28 September to 1 October. The production plays the New Theatre in Peterborough on 2 October, Harrogate Theatre on 4 to 5 October and Lancaster Grand Theatre on 6 to 7 October.

The run continues to Lowther Pavilion in Lytham St Annes on 8 October and Queen's Theatre in Barnstaple on 9 October. After that it calls at The Riverfront in Newport on 14 October, The Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury on 15 October and Ffwrnes Theatre in Llanelli on 16 October.

The final leg takes in the Regent Theatre in Ipswich on 18 October and the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft on 20 October. It then plays the Victoria Wood Theatre in Bowness-on-Windermere on 22 to 23 October and The Montgomery Theatre in Sheffield on 25 to 27 October.

The tour closes with dates at Buxton Opera House from 28 to 30 October, the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton from 1 to 4 November and Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury from 5 to 6 November. The last announced date is BEAM in Hertford on 12 November.
