Arsenal beat Leeds 2-1 on Saturday. Then they lost two players after the final whistle.

Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed defender Piero Hincapie and midfielder Martin Zubimendi were both hurt in a post-match training session at Emirates Stadium. He called the double blow "far from ideal" BBC.

The session is routine for Arsenal. Arteta regularly organises a small-sided game on the pitch after a match, for players who did not feature or did not complete the full 90 minutes. It keeps them sharp. This time it ended badly.

Hincapie did not finish the session. He was carried off by goalkeeper Illan Meslier after hurting his ankle. Zubimendi was also hurt in the same game, Arteta confirmed.

Neither player had a heavy workload against Leeds. Hincapie came on as a substitute after 82 minutes. Zubimendi was an unused substitute, meaning he was named in the squad but never left the bench.

Both players suffered ankle injuries ESPN. Arteta said Hincapie's problem looked the more serious of the two. The pair were sent for further scans on Monday 12 October to establish how long they will be out.

They were both absent from training on Monday morning. That leaves Arteta with a selection headache before Tuesday's Champions League match against Lille. He gave the update at a news conference previewing that tie.

For supporters, this will feel like a frustrating twist. A home win, three points banked, and then two names added to the treatment list without a tackle in front of a crowd. The scans will decide what comes next.

Arteta made clear he will wait for the results before setting any return dates. Until then, Arsenal must plan without two players who had expected to be involved.
