Coventry thrash Newcastle 4-1 for back-to-back wins

Coventry City beat Newcastle United 4-1 at home to move out of the Premier League relegation zone and up to 14th.
It was loud, fast and decisive. Jack Rudoni scored from the penalty spot, with Sidiki Cherif, Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni also on target, as Coventry turned a difficult start into successive wins, according to BBC.
The Newcastle victory followed a win at Nottingham Forest before the international break. Two wins in a row have changed the mood completely.
That is because Coventry had zero points and zero goals after four rounds of the season. They lost their first two home games, and opened the campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal, the defending champions, as reported by Reuters and the Premier League.
Manchester City also beat them 1-0 in early September to keep up their own 100% start, according to Reuters. At that point, Coventry looked stuck.
Then came the first breakthrough. A 1-0 win, sealed by Jay Dasilva, gave the club a first top-flight victory in 25 years under manager Frank Lampard. Dasilva also scored the club’s first goal back at this level in a quarter of a century.
The Newcastle result went one step further. It ended a 25-year wait for a top-flight goal and a win in front of their own fans. It was also the first time Coventry had scored four in a top-flight match since a 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in May 2000.
After six games, Coventry were level on points with Manchester United. For a promoted side, that is some turnaround.
Coventry are back in the Premier League after 25 years away. Promotion was secured with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers in April, following a strong Championship season that included eight wins and four draws from the opening 12 matches.
What makes this stand out is the speed of the shift. From no points and no goals to two wins, four different scorers in one afternoon, and breathing space above the bottom three, the places that go down at the end of the season. For supporters who waited a generation for this return, those home goals will have meant a lot.
