Honey, the BBC and ZDF Cold War thriller from the team behind Killing Eve, held its world premiere on Monday evening at MIPCOM Cannes.

The screening took place on 12 October from 18:00 to 19:15 in the Grand Auditorium, MIPCOM said in its advance announcement. MIPCOM is the annual television market in Cannes where broadcasters and streamers buy and sell new shows. The screening was open to registered delegates. MIPCOM

Honey is a darkly comedic Cold War thriller. It follows Martha, a young officer with MI6, Britain's foreign intelligence service, who goes deep undercover in East Berlin in 1982. There she becomes caught in a dangerous love triangle while working on counter-espionage. Variety

For fans, this means a return to familiar territory. Honey is a prequel, meaning a story set before an earlier series, to Killing Eve. It tells the early story of Carolyn Martens, the intelligence boss played by Fiona Shaw in the original show. Deadline

Ann Skelly plays Martha. She previously appeared in The Nevers and The Wheel of Time. She stars alongside Nate Mann, Jannis Niewöhner and Rory Kinnear.

Behind the camera, Emma Moran is lead writer and executive producer. Sally Woodward Gentle of Sid Gentle Films, the company best known for making Killing Eve, is also an executive producer. The series was commissioned by the BBC and ZDF, filmed in Lithuania, and is being sold internationally by Fifth Season, which handles sales to buyers outside the home markets.

Monday's screening was presented by Fifth Season and was followed by a Q&A with Skelly and Woodward Gentle. The BBC had earlier revealed the cast and a first look at the 1980s-set drama in February.
