Aziz Ansari to Tape New Netflix Stand-Up Special for 2027 Release

Aziz Ansari is heading back to Netflix with a new stand-up special premiering in 2027.
It will be his seventh stand-up hour overall and his fifth for Netflix, continuing one of the longest comedy partnerships on the service, according to Variety. No exact date in 2027 has been announced yet.
A stand-up special, meaning a live comedy set filmed and released as a single programme, lives or dies on the night it is taped. That night is now set. Ansari will perform at the State Theatre New Jersey on 29 Oct, in front of a live audience, for cameras.
He will also direct the special himself. He will executive produce, meaning he oversees the creative and business decisions, alongside Marc Lieberman. Above Average is the production company behind the hour, handling the physical shoot and delivery for Netflix.
The theatre lists the date under the title Aziz Ansari: Hypothetical Tour and describes it as a Netflix special taping, according to State Theatre New Jersey. The gap between an autumn taping and a premiere the next year is normal. It allows months for editing, sound work and final approvals.
Ansari was the first comedian to release an original special with Netflix. He started that run with Buried Alive in 2013. He followed with Live at Madison Square Garden in 2015, Right Now in 2019 and Nightclub Comedian in 2022. Four specials in nine years. That is a steady pace for an hour of new material.
Right Now was directed by Spike Jonze, according to Netflix. Before his Netflix run, Ansari put out two earlier hours on his own path. They were Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening in 2010 and Dangerously Delicious in 2012.
Television viewers will know him from elsewhere too. He played Tom Haverford opposite Amy Poehler on NBC's Parks and Recreation. He then created and starred in the Netflix comedy series Master of None, which brought him two Emmys. Earlier, he co-created and starred in the MTV sketch comedy series Human Giant.
For fans, this means a familiar set-up with a new hour to look forward to. Ansari helped establish what a Netflix comedy special could be. Now he returns to that same slot to try again, with the cameras booked and the year locked in.
