Aaron Paul has honoured his late Breaking Bad co-star RJ Mitte by posting one of Mitte's videos about mental health awareness to Instagram. The tribute was reported by Variety on Oct. 14. Paul let Mitte's own words carry the post.

Mitte died on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026. He was 34 years old. His official cause of death was suicide, according to Variety. His publicist confirmed to Reuters that he took his own life, and a spokesperson confirmed to Us Magazine on Oct. 12 that he died by suicide earlier that day. The news was first confirmed on Oct. 12.

In the video shared by Paul, Mitte speaks directly to camera. He talks about the importance of caring for mental health as well as physical health. The message is simple and personal. It was made as advocacy, not as a scene from a show.

Paul added only a short caption of his own. He wrote that Mitte had been an inspiration to many people. He said he was sorry Mitte was hurting. The tone was brief and sorrowful. He did not add further detail.

Bryan Cranston, who headlined Breaking Bad as Walter White, has also spoken about the loss. Cranston played the father to Mitte's character on the AMC drama series. He said he was in despair after hearing the news of Mitte's death. His comments were also reported by Variety on Oct. 14.

Cranston said he first met Mitte when Mitte was 14 years old. That was when Mitte was cast as Walter White Jr., the teenage son in the White family. The part became the role most viewers knew him for, and the working relationship lasted through the run of the series.

Mitte was born with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects movement, muscle tone and coordination. He spoke openly about his experience and became known as a disability rights activist, a description used by Reuters in its Oct. 12 reporting. For many viewers, his performance as Walt Jr. was their first introduction. The video chosen by Paul points to the second part of his public life, urging people to look after their minds as well as their bodies. It is the message Paul chose to leave with his followers, in Mitte's own voice.
