Getafe have made a formal offer to sign Jadon Sancho as a free agent.

The La Liga club moved for the former Manchester United winger after his contract at Old Trafford expired in the summer, BBC Sport reported on 15 October. A free agent is a player without a club, free to join a new team outside the normal transfer window.

Sancho, 26, joined United from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021. He never quite settled in Manchester. Five years brought flashes of skill but no lasting run in the side.

He spent much of that time away on loan, a temporary move to another club. He returned to Dortmund for a spell, then joined Chelsea for the 2024-25 season. He made 41 appearances for Chelsea, who then paid a £5m penalty to send him back to United rather than sign him permanently.

Last season he was at Aston Villa. United agreed a straight loan deal on deadline day in September 2025, with Villa covering 80% of his wages, Sky Sports reported at the time. He made 39 appearances for Unai Emery's side.

Getafe are shopping in the same market for experience. They have already signed Spain right-back Dani Carvajal on a free transfer after his Real Madrid deal expired in June. The 33-year-old agreed a contract until June 2027.

Sancho had also been offered to Russian champions Krasnodar, who decided against a move for him, Yahoo Sports reported on 14 October. BBC Sport first reported Getafe's interest a day earlier.

For fans, this means a familiar name at a crossroads. Sancho was once one of England's brightest young attackers. Getafe rarely make this kind of signing. If he says yes, it gives him a fresh start in Spain and gives the Madrid club a player with a point to prove.
