Talia Ryder has taken the third lead in PREPPY opposite Kit Connor and Diana Silvers, Deadline reported. Elizabeth Marvel and Bill Camp have also joined the cast. Production is under way in Manhattan on the true-crime film from STX Entertainment and Aggregate Films.

The story returns to New York in the summer of 1986. It traces the weeks leading to the murder of Jennifer Levin in Central Park. Robert Chambers, convicted in the case, was dubbed the "Preppy Killer" in press coverage, a label that gives the film its title.

Ryder completes the central trio. The credit means she holds one of the three main parts, alongside Connor and Silvers. Marvel and Camp will appear as a married couple, Deadline reported.

Janicza Bravo directs. She is working from an original screenplay by David Levine and Rose Lichter-Marck. Original, in industry terms, means written directly for the screen rather than adapted from a book, play or earlier film. That credit establishes whose dramatised account of that summer the production is using.

Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan and John Buderwitz produce for Aggregate Films. Peter Coleman and Paula Manzanedo produce for STX Entertainment. Bravo also produces, which gives the director a formal role in organising the film from shoot through to release.

Shooting in Manhattan places the cameras where the underlying events took place. A location shoot means cast and crew work on real streets and interiors, rather than recreating the city on a stage elsewhere. Cameras are already rolling.

For audiences coming to this cold, the shape is now clear. Three leads carry the centre of the story. Two further established actors play a married couple on the edges of it.

True-crime, as a label, simply means a drama built around a real case rather than a fully fictionalised thriller. It does not change the underlying fact of Levin's death in 1986. The film dramatises the summer that led to it.

The casting was reported on 15 October 2026. No release date and no further character detail were included in that announcement.
