World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4 with four new zones, more than 1,000 new quests and thousands of new items. GameSpot

It is the next chapter of World of Warcraft, the long-running online fantasy game where thousands of players explore, fight and team up in a shared world. Forever adds a playable race not seen in any other version of the game: the Skyborne elves. It also adds Undead Paladin as a new combination of character type and fighting class.

Blizzard laid out a roadmap for Forever at BlizzCon that runs through Summer 2027. The plan includes new raids, dungeons and quests. Raids and dungeons are structured missions for small or large groups.

The roadmap also includes a Hardcore permadeath server. On that kind of server, a character that dies stays dead, which makes every fight riskier.

Associate production director Clay Stone said the team scaled back some planned additions for launch as development moved towards the BlizzCon 2026 announcement. Stone discussed the decision alongside executive producer and vice-president Holly Longdale in an interview with GameSpot about development, endgame play and what comes next.

Longdale and Stone also spoke to Inven Global online about the current state of development and the future direction of Forever. Inven Global

The two developers organised keynote presentations live from PAX Aus on 9-11 October. Longdale's talk covered lessons from her career and the continued evolution of the Warcraft universe, according to Blizzard. Blizzard

For players, this means a busy few months. Launch brings new places to explore and new character options to try. Then the longer roadmap keeps adding group challenges, story quests and a high-risk way to play for those who want it.
