Linda Cardellini's Pam Voorhees has reached the screen, with all eight episodes of Crystal Lake now streaming on Peacock.

The series premiered on Peacock on October 15, according to the streamer, with the full eight-episode season released at once. It is a Peacock and A24 series from Brad Caleb Kane, built as a prequel, meaning a story set before the original film, to Friday the 13th (1980). Deadline

Cardellini plays Pam Voorhees, mother of Jason Voorhees. Callum Vinson plays Jason, the young son who drowns in Crystal Lake. Gwendolyn Sundstrom plays Grace, described as Jason's friend with a neglectful mother.

The story is set several years before the events of the 1980 film. In this version Pam works as a cook at the camp where Jason drowns, and Jason drowned the summer before the main action. His body was never recovered.

That loss drives the season. Pam struggles to grieve and remains convinced Jason is still alive. Months after the drowning, as two strangers dig into her past, she turns to murderous action.

Cardellini told Deadline she played that grief as "fuel for her rage", the emotion that pushes Pam forward. It is a short line. It explains a lot about where the performance sits.

The actor also talked through two kills. She said she enjoyed Pam's first machete kill, a sequence filmed over a week. Her other favourite was the fast-food restaurant scene where Pam uses a mallet against Grace's mother.

For fans, this means a familiar name in an earlier chapter. Pamela Voorhees is the antagonist of the Friday the 13th franchise, and here she is shown as the mother of a missing special-needs child trying to hold her life together. The Hollywood Reporter

There are nods for long-time viewers. The series includes recreations of scenes from the Friday the 13th films, but it does not feature Jason Voorhees' hockey mask. The Hollywood Reporter

Peacock lists Crystal Lake as an eight-episode season, with episode guides now live on the service.
