Tate McRae released “Housewife” on Thursday night, Oct. 15, the lead single from her upcoming fourth album. A new era is under way. The song arrived with a music video shot in the South of France, according to Billboard.

The release followed a straight sales push. Her official website lists “Housewife” as “The New Single” and offered a pre-save on Spotify and a pre-add on Apple Music, which let fans store the track before it dropped. Her YouTube channel now hosts ‘Tate McRae - Housewife (Official Video)’, after a trailer posted Oct. 15 advertised the date with a pre-save link.

McRae gave an early hint of the theme earlier in October on The Tonight Show. She described the song as about “a woman who can’t be contained.” No album title or date was announced with the single.

Longtime followers had seen the word before. When her headlining set at Lollapalooza in Chicago started in August, “Housewife” flashed up on stage. The show later cut to a video clip of a ticking clock soundtracked by an unreleased snippet, a clear signal of new music. She closed the night dipped in gold.

The clues stretched back months. McRae seeded hidden hints about “Housewife” ahead of the Oct. 15 release, a slow build noted by NBC. For fans, this means the Lollapalooza staging and the talk-show tease were part of one plan. The single is the payoff.

What makes this stand out is how much was shown before a note was out. A stage graphic, a clock, a one-line description. None of it named a date. Then came the trailer, the pre-save and a Thursday-night drop with a France shoot attached.

The new single follows “So Close to What,” released in February 2025. That album topped the Billboard 200 with 177,000 total album-equivalent units earned, according to Luminate. Album-equivalent units, the measure that converts plays into album sales, put streaming, downloads and physical copies into one total.

More details on the fourth album, including its title, tracklist and release date, have not yet been confirmed. For now, “Housewife” is available to stream and the video is live on YouTube.
