Olivia Rodrigo teams with Chappell Roan for first remix, Expectations

Olivia Rodrigo has released her first remix, a new version of “Expectations” featuring Chappell Roan. The track arrived on 15 October 2026, according to Planet Radio. The original song is taken from Rodrigo’s album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, as reported by Rolling Stone.
A remix is a reworked version of a released song, often built around a new guest part. Here, Roan adds a new verse to Rodrigo’s track. It is the first time Rodrigo has issued a song in this form.
Both singers share a studio link. Rodrigo and Roan have each worked closely with producer Dan Nigro, who has overseen much of their recent recorded output. That common connection gives the collaboration a direct line back to their earlier records.
That history runs deep. Roan opened for Rodrigo on the Sour Tour in 2022 and returned for the Guts World Tour in 2024. An opening act performs before the headliner, playing to a crowd that largely came for someone else. Those two tours put Roan in front of Rodrigo’s audiences before her own headline dates expanded.
The remix arrived with a video organised around old television games. Rodrigo and Roan appear as rival contestants on a retro-styled programme called “The Big Expectations Show.” They compete for points across segments modelled on Family Feud, the long-running format in which teams guess the most popular answers to survey questions.
David Byrne appears in the clip as fictional host Johnny Johnson. Nigro also appears on screen alongside the two singers. The cameras keep rolling as the contest plays out.
The release follows Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain festival, held on 29 August at Great Park in Irvine, California. The event raised $10 million to support women and girls. That total was then doubled to $20 million by Melinda French Gates.
There is also a physical tie-in for collectors. Rodrigo’s official store lists an ‘expectations - LA behavior translucent blue 7-inch vinyl’ alongside a ‘sticky sweet hot pink vinyl’, according to the official store listing. A 7-inch vinyl is a small-format record, usually holding one song per side.
What makes this stand out is the timing. After two tours together and parallel work with the same producer, the two singers now share equal billing on a record for the first time. For fans, this means a familiar song with a second voice added, and a video that plays the partnership for laughs.
