Prime Video orders tennis drama Rally from Julie Plec and Andre Agassi

Prime Video has ordered Rally to series, a drama set in the elite world of competitive tennis.

The commission is a straight-to-series order, meaning no pilot is shot first. It moves the project straight into staffing writers and organising production, as reported by Deadline.

Julie Plec will write, showrun and executive produce the series. A showrunner runs the writers' room and day-to-day creative decisions. Eight-time Grand Slam singles champion Andre Agassi will executive produce, a senior credit with creative and business control.

The series comes from Plec, Universal Television, Entertainment 360 and Amazon MGM Studios. Plec and Emily Cummins will executive produce for Plec's My So-Called Company alongside Guymon Casady, Agassi and Justin Gimelstob.

The idea grew out of Casady's experience in elite tennis academy culture. Rally was first set up at Universal Television about a year ago under Plec's overall deal there, an arrangement where a studio backs a writer to develop new shows for it first.

It is Plec's second series at Prime Video. Her drama We Were Liars is returning for a second season on the service.

For Agassi, Rally is his first producing gig. Gimelstob has a recent tennis-screen credit of his own, having executive produced Open, the Apple TV documentary about Agassi.

Earlier reporting described the development project as a young-adult drama, meaning aimed at teens and twenty-somethings, set at a tennis academy. Deadline first reported Rally in development at Amazon and Universal Television in September 2025, with Plec attached as showrunner. That account was echoed by The Ankler.

What makes this stand out is the combination behind the camera. A long-running drama writer builds a fictional academy. A champion who lived inside the real one helps guide it. Casting and a premiere date have still to be announced.
