Selma Blair's representatives say a medical emergency led to her arrest after a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to John F Kennedy airport in New York on Sunday night, as reported by The Guardian.

The actor, 54, did not intend to harm anyone during the flight, the representatives said. They also said there was no attempt to open the aircraft door.

Authorities accuse Blair of injuring two flight attendants during the Los Angeles to JFK flight. One attendant sustained a laceration and the other sustained a bite, as reported by TMZ. Flight attendants reported a "physically abusive passenger" on the flight, Reuters reported.

She was put in restraints on the plane. One of the injured attendants was taken to hospital, according to the New York Port Authority as reported by the BBC. People magazine reported that Blair allegedly punched one crew member and bit another.

The Port Authority alleged that Blair then kicked a police officer who was taking her to hospital and kicked a nurse at the facility. Blair faces assault charges after the disturbance, CNN reported. The FBI is investigating the incident, according to People.

Blair became emotional during a court appearance after the alleged attacks on crew, police and medical staff. She has since left court after her arrest.

Her representatives link the alleged conduct to health issues. Blair went public about a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2018. The representatives said she has pseudobulbar affect secondary to multiple sclerosis, and said authorities took her service dog from her.

Her lawyer said she had missed doses of medication before the alleged assaults on flight attendants, a police officer and a nurse. CNN reported that Blair had boarded the flight after extensive hours on set, and that she fell and hit her head on the plane. A representative had told People on 12 October that Blair experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.

The latest account came in a lengthy exclusive statement given to People. In it, the representatives repeated that Blair did not intend to harm anyone.
