Sarina Wiegman extends England stay to Euro 2029

Sarina Wiegman is staying on as England women's head coach until Euro 2029.
The Dutchwoman has signed a two-year contract extension. Her previous deal had been due to expire after next summer's World Cup, with the new terms keeping her in charge through the next European Championship BBC.
"I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football," Wiegman said.
She added that her main concern right now is the World Cup and helping the squad realise their potential in the years to come. England, she said, have an important job to confirm their place at the World Cup in Brazil.
That qualifying job is still live. England beat Greece 8-1 on aggregate to reach round two of the World Cup play-offs, the knockout ties that decide the final qualification spots. They will face Ukraine next.
Wiegman took over from Phil Neville in September 2021. Less than a year later she led England to Euro 2022 glory, beating Germany 2-1 in the final at Wembley.
England then reached the 2023 World Cup final in Australia under Wiegman, losing 1-0 to Spain. Two years later came revenge and history, as England beat Spain in the Euro 2025 final to win a second straight European title.
That win made the Lionesses the first England team, women's or men's, to lift a major trophy on foreign soil BBC.
The records stack up for Wiegman herself. By reaching the Euro 2025 final, she became the first women's or men's manager to reach five consecutive major international finals. Victory in that final made her only the second manager after Germany's Christina Theune to win three successive European Championships.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham called her "an incredible coach with an unparalleled record in major tournaments". He said there is no one better to lead the Lionesses into the next two tournaments.
What makes this stand out is the timing. England could have waited until after the World Cup. Instead they have locked in the coach who has taken them to two Euros and a World Cup final, and let her get on with the football.
