Hannah Hampton has signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea, keeping her at the club until 2028 (BBC Sport).

The deal arrives at the peak of the 25-year-old's career. Hampton was a standout performer as England won Euro 2025, and she claimed the Yashin Trophy — the Ballon d'Or's award for the best goalkeeper in world football — later that year. She has also established herself as first-choice for the Lionesses, the England women's national team.

Her previous Chelsea contract was due to expire in summer 2026, which would have allowed her to leave on a free transfer. Chelsea moved to secure her future as part of a broader retention drive this summer, with England internationals Lucy Bronze and Aggie Beever-Jones also signing new deals (BBC Sport).

Hampton joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2023 on a three-year deal. Since then she has won five trophies, the highlight being an unbeaten domestic treble in the 2024-25 season — the Women's Super League (WSL), the FA Cup, and the League Cup, all without losing a single match in those competitions. She has also won back-to-back Golden Glove awards in the WSL, given to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets across the campaign.

Her international résumé is equally strong. Hampton was part of the England squad that won Euro 2022 on home soil, and she was in the squad that reached the 2023 Women's World Cup final, where the Lionesses fell to Spain.

Chelsea's 2025-26 season was disappointing by the club's standards, making this summer's retention work all the more important. Keeping a goalkeeper who is recognised as the best in the world right now gives the squad a foundation to rebuild around.
