Witcher 3 Switch 2 patch takes aim at handheld blur

CD Projekt Red released Patch 5.01 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 on 19 October 2026, with a direct fix for blurry graphics in handheld play.
The update adjusts image sharpening and resolution to improve clarity and fidelity, according to details summarised by Eurogamer. That blur drew complaints. Players had reported that the remastered version, an updated release with improved visuals and features, looked soft and out of focus, particularly when playing undocked.
Lighting gets a tune as well. The patch tones down excess brightness introduced by the Remastered edition. Three new graphics options arrive too: Bloom, Light Shafts and Depth of Field, which control glow, visible beams of light and background blur. A separate fix addresses Dynamic Resolution Scaling, a system that lowers resolution automatically to keep movement smooth, which could cause visual artefacts in certain settings.
Other fixes are practical. A rare crash when moving between in-game regions is gone. The “Automatically Apply Blade Oils” feature, which coats Geralt’s swords for extra damage against specific monsters, now stays on between sessions instead of working only if switched on in that session, as listed in the notes published by CD Projekt Red. Map pins can no longer land on the black bars around the map. Climbing a ladder now rumbles in both Joy-Con 2 controllers, not just the left one. Cache handling for Cross-Platform Mod Support, the system that lets mods made on PC run on consoles, has been optimised.
The Switch 2 version is a free upgrade for owners of the game on the original Switch, the studio said in material published on 9 September 2026. It supports four control setups, including Handheld, Pro Controller and Dual Grip modes. Both paid expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are now part of the base game at no extra cost for players who did not own them.
There is one warning carried over from the wider update. Mods that use XML files, script files or w3strings files, the text files that hold in-game wording, will not work with the new version. The clarity fix was previewed earlier in October, when Nintendo Life reported on 8 October 2026 that improved sharpness was on the way.
For players, this means less fiddling and a clearer picture. Download the patch and the handheld image should look crisper, the lighting calmer, and those small annoyances gone.
