Hot Chip Announce Ninth Album A Long Way From Kansas

Hot Chip will release A Long Way From Kansas on 8 January 2027. Domino, the band's label, confirmed the date and title on 19 October 2026. It will be the group's ninth album. Domino
The announcement arrived with a new song, "Random Violence". The band described it as the lead single from the album. Its video was directed by Jack Cole. Our Culture Mag
"Random Violence" is a tribute to JD Twitch, the late Optimo DJ. Joe Goddard of Hot Chip said Keith McIvor of Optimo in Glasgow died in September last year. He had received a diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumour a few months earlier.
Goddard said McIvor largely inspired the words of the song. The tone is plain and personal. It remembers a friend and fellow DJ rather than telling his full story. Pitchfork
The album also brings a first for the band. It is the first Hot Chip record to feature Felix Martin singing. Two guests appear on named tracks. Beth Ditto sings on "Me In Your Head". Eddie Chacon sings on "The Garden".
It runs 11 tracks. The tracklist starts with "Stuck Around" and ends with "Crushing". The new album follows Freakout/Release, which the band released in 2022.
For listeners, this means new Hot Chip music after a four-year album gap. The group organised the return around one song with a clear dedication. The rest of the record will follow in January.
Domino has also organised an exclusive limited 2xLP edition of the album. The label says it comes with an MP3 and WAV download card. Domino
