Gwyneth Paltrow to Lead Netflix Drama The Apology in First TV Lead Role

Gwyneth Paltrow will lead a television series for the first time.
Netflix has given a two-season order to The Apology, an A24 drama starring Paltrow. A two-season order means two seasons are confirmed before the first has aired. Variety reported the commission on 19 October 2026.
Paltrow will play Evelyn Amspoker. Evelyn's son was murdered 18 years ago. Police never solved the killing. The drama centres on Evelyn as she lives with that cold case, meaning an investigation that remains open but inactive.
The series comes from Joe Murtagh. He is the creator, writer and showrunner, meaning he writes the series and leads day-to-day production. Thomas Vinterberg is attached as director. Executive producers are Murtagh, Vinterberg, Paltrow and Joe Hipps of Cut To, according to the same report.
Paltrow has worked in television before, but not as a series lead. She appeared in five episodes of Glee as Holly Holiday. She also had a supporting role in The Politician, Ryan Murphy's Netflix series.
For viewers, this means no wait for a renewal decision. Season two is already confirmed. Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date or further casting.
That locked-in run gives the writers' room a fixed endpoint to organise. Two hundred crew jobs, scripts and schedules can now be planned across two seasons at once. The next details to come will be when production starts and who joins Paltrow on screen.
