BBC Renews This City is Ours for Season 3 Before Season 2 Airs

The BBC has ordered a third season of This City is Ours before the second has even aired.
The early renewal was reported by Deadline on 20 October. It gives the Liverpool crime drama a secure future five days before its return. All episodes of series two arrive on BBC iPlayer from Sunday 25 October, according to the BBC.
The decision follows a big debut. The BBC says the show was 2025’s biggest new drama launch, with nearly 8.5 million viewers for its first episode.
Sean Bean leads the cast as Ronnie Phelan, alongside James Nelson-Joyce as Michael Kavanagh. Series two adds two familiar faces. Shaun Evans and Álvaro Morte join for the new run.
For fans, this means no anxious wait. The story will continue beyond next week’s episodes. That is rare in British television, where a show often has to prove itself all over again each year.
Behind the camera, the team stays consistent. The series was created by Stephen Butchard, who returns as lead writer for series three. It was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and is produced by Left Bank Pictures.
Series three will be executive produced by Charlotte Moore, Rebecca Hodgson, Sian McWilliams, Stephen Butchard and Jo McClellan. Sony Pictures Television handles international distribution.
The show is already travelling. Season one plays in the United States on AMC+, after AMC Networks acquired the US rights to the crime drama, as reported by Variety. It was also listed among the RTS Programme Awards 2026 nominations.
The BBC has released a new trailer and artwork for series two to mark the countdown to launch. Viewers will not have long to wait. The next chapter lands this Sunday, and another is already on the way.
