Evolution Mallorca will bring more than 100 projects to Palma de Mallorca between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 for its 15th edition, its largest feature selection to date, as reported by Variety. The eight-day event mixes international premieres with local work and filmmaker events.

The international line-up includes Jesse Eisenberg's "The Debut," Danny Boyle's "Ink" and Pawel Pawlikowski's "Fatherland." The opening gala is Jordan Firstman's "Club Kid." The list is long. The focus is new work.

This year's honourees are director Edward Berger, cinematographer Matthew Libatique, whose craft is photography direction, and actors Diane Kruger and Iris Berben. Previous editions have welcomed Danny DeVito, Annette Bening, Paul Haggis and Jessica Hausner.

The festival was founded by actress-turned-director Sandra Lipski. Born in Germany, she moved to Mallorca as a young girl and later travelled to Los Angeles to pursue acting. She is an alumna of the Los Angeles Film School.

Her starting point was simple. After her debut short "Going Down" played the festival circuit in 2012, she found Mallorca had no film festival of its own. So she built one.

Local filmmaking gets its own space in the Made in Baleares section. That strand includes the world premiere of Juan Sut's "Torna," a Mexico-Mallorca co-production made with talent and support from both countries.

For audiences, that blend is the point. Red-carpet titles sit alongside island-made films, with filmmaker Q&As, workshops and industry meetings around the screenings. Full details are listed on the festival site.
