Berger and Libatique to lead honours at Mallorca festival

Edward Berger and Matthew Libatique will take top honours at this year's Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival.
The festival runs Oct. 28 to Nov. 4 on the Spanish island, Variety reported. Berger will receive the Evolution Vision Award. Libatique will receive the Cinematography Icon Award.
Libatique is the fifth recipient of the cinematography prize, which celebrates work behind the camera. The festival will also run a Cinematography Focus forum from Oct. 28 to 30, a three-day programme of talks and sessions dedicated to the craft.
German actor Iris Berben will receive the inaugural Evolution Icon Award. The presentation will take place during the opening gala on Oct. 28. Berben served as President of the German Film Academy between 2010 and 2019.
The festival will host a special screening of "Fatherland," directed by Pawel Pawlikowski and produced by Berger. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Berger and producer Jeanne Tremsal.
Spanish actor Marc Clotet will preside over this year's festival jury, which decides the competition prizes.
Local filmmaking gets its own space in the Made in Baleares section. This year's lineup features 32 projects, including 17 short films, seven feature films, five documentary short films and three student short films.
What makes this stand out is the mix. International names take the awards stage, while the Balearic showcase puts new work from the islands in front of festival audiences.
