Leeds Rhinos have handed full-back Fergus McCormack a new three-year contract that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2029 season.

The deal was reported on 20 October, with the 20-year-old committing his future after forcing his way into the first team this year, according to BBC Sport. He had been off-contract before putting pen to paper, according to Love Rugby League.

McCormack plays at full-back, the last line of defence who often starts attacks from deep. He made his Leeds debut against Widnes in the Challenge Cup — rugby league's historic knockout competition — in February.

He then made three appearances in Super League, the top flight of club rugby league in Britain, across May and June. He grabbed his chance. Head coach Brad Arthur kept faith with him for the biggest game of the season.

McCormack started in Leeds' play-off semi-final defeat by Warrington. That was a tight one. Leeds lost 12-14 to Wolves at AMT Headingley Stadium on 25 September, according to Leeds Rhinos, ending their run one win short of the Grand Final.

The club had first outlined the new deal on its own website on 15 October under the headline 'McCormack commits his future to Leeds Rhinos with new three-year deal'. It came in a busy stretch for Leeds, who also announced the signing of prop Wiremu Greig.

For fans, this means clarity. Leeds keep a young player they already trust in pressure moments, and McCormack gets three seasons to grow into the shirt without worrying about his next contract.

What makes this stand out is the speed of his rise. From a cup debut in February to starting a semi-final in September is a sharp climb for any 20-year-old. Leeds clearly like what they see.
