Matt Davis extends Leigh Leopards stay until end of 2027

Matt Davis will stay with Leigh Leopards until the end of 2027 after agreeing a fresh contract extension.
The club confirmed the deal on 28 September, keeping the 30-year-old forward in Leopards colours for another season, as reported by BBC Sport. Leigh marked the announcement on its own website with a piece titled ‘Matty Davis Agrees Contract Extension’ and a sit-down interview with the player.
Davis has made 104 appearances for Leigh since joining from Warrington ahead of the 2023 season. That tally, also reported by the BBC, underlines how central he has become in three campaigns with the club.
In rugby league, forwards do much of the heavy lifting. They make tackle after tackle, carry the ball hard into contact and fight for every metre to give their team better field position.
To pass 100 games in that time takes durability as well as form. It is a bruising sport with a short turnaround between matches, so availability on that scale speaks to toughness, conditioning and consistency.
His future was not always certain this summer. In mid-August, Davis admitted that nothing was signed for 2027, either at Leigh or elsewhere, according to Love Rugby League. Six weeks on, that question is settled.
This is the second time Leigh have extended his stay. He previously signed a two-year deal in May 2024 to remain until the end of the 2026 season, as confirmed by Leigh Leopards, an agreement the club revisited on social media that September.
Leigh first announced that earlier two-year extension in May 2024, with the club revisiting the news on social media that September. The posts, shared via the club’s channels, kept Davis tied to Leigh through 2026 before this latest agreement pushed the stay to 2027. In practical terms, it is a one-year addition.
At 30, Davis brings experience without losing mobility. He defends tidily through the middle, supports the ball well and rarely wastes an effort.
What makes this stand out for supporters is continuity. Retaining a proven, 100-game forward helps the coaching staff plan rotation and gives younger pack members a steady example to follow. He knows the systems, the standards and the supporters. One more year together suits both sides.
