Craig Revel Horwood is joining the convent. The Strictly Come Dancing judge will play Mother Superior in a new UK and Ireland tour of Sister Act The Musical, which opens at New Wimbledon Theatre on 11 September 2027.

The tour is produced by Jamie Wilson and will travel through autumn 2027 and into spring 2028 WhatsOnStage. Tickets for the opening dates go on sale from 21 October 2026.

It is a return to familiar territory for Revel Horwood. He previously directed and choreographed a UK tour of the show in 2015, according to The Independent. This time he steps on stage as the convent’s formidable head.

He will not be alone. The tour cast also includes Paul Chuckle and Zoe Birkett, as reported by the Irish News. Further casting is still to be announced.

The show itself comes from big musical-theatre names. Music is by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and the book is by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional material by Douglas Carter Beane. The touring production is directed by Bill Buckhurst, with choreography by Alistair David, set and costume design by Morgan Large, lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound by Tom Marshall, musical supervision by Stephen Brooker and casting by Pearson Casting.

The route is already extensive. After Wimbledon, the tour plays Sunderland Empire from 20 to 25 September, Sheffield Lyceum from 28 September to 9 October, and the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford from 11 to 16 October.

It then visits Manchester Palace Theatre from 9 to 27 November and Cliffs Pavilion in Southend from 29 November to 4 December, before a Christmas run at the Alexandra in Birmingham from 6 December 2027 to 2 January 2028.

The new year leg takes in Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from 10 to 15 January, Theatre Royal Nottingham from 17 to 22 January and Theatre Royal Brighton from 24 to 29 January. It continues to the Orchard Theatre in Dartford from 31 January to 5 February, Theatre Royal Plymouth from 7 to 12 February, Hull New Theatre from 15 to 19 February and Mayflower Theatre in Southampton from 21 to 26 February.

Northern Ireland follows, with the Grand Opera House in Belfast from 29 February to 11 March and the Millennium Forum in Derry from 13 to 18 March. The tour then plays New Theatre Oxford from 21 to 25 March 2028. Dates for Dublin and further stops are still to be announced.

What makes this stand out is the casting switch. Audiences know Revel Horwood for sharp verdicts from behind the judges’ desk. Here he takes on one of musical comedy’s great authority figures, opposite a disco-singing novice nun on the run.
