Lily Allen has said life as a “tradwife” once appealed to her — but does not now. She made the remarks in an interview with The Times published on Oct. 20, as reported by Billboard.

“Tradwife” is shorthand for traditional wife, an online label for women who centre home life, cooking and childcare rather than paid work outside the home. Allen said the idea “appealed to me in the past.” Then she added: “I don't think it does now.”

That has changed. “I don't need to be taken care of any more,” she said, describing herself as “a single mum supporting two teenagers on my own.”

Allen linked the earlier pull to her married life. During her marriages to Sam Cooper and David Harbour, she said she prioritised staying home and cooking for the household. She shares two teenage daughters with Cooper.

Her marriage to Harbour ended sometime around February 2025. Allen did not frame the split as the whole story. She pointed instead to work.

“The album and tour having been a success has given me a sense of agency and accomplishment,” she said. For listeners, this means a clearer picture of where that confidence comes from: not a new role, but earning her own way and raising two teenagers on her own terms.
