There is no new song from Old Gods of Asgard in Control Resonant. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen says the omission was deliberate.

Kasurinen explained the decision in an interview with Video Games Chronicle published on 20 October 2026. The sequel follows Dylan Faden, played by Sean Durrie, rather than his sister Jesse.

The Old Gods of Asgard are the in-fiction alter ego of the Finnish band Poets of the Fall. They first appeared in Alan Wake before returning in Control, and have become a fixture of developer Remedy Entertainment’s connected stories.

Their history with the studio is loud. The band provided Take Control for the Ashtray Maze sequence in Control, a shifting section where music drives the action. They later provided Herald of Darkness for Alan Wake 2, which they performed live at The Game Awards with Remedy creative director Sam Lake on stage.

Kasurinen said that bombastic approach suited the first Control. Resonant needed something different. Its story called for more introspective moments built around Dylan.

Music is still present in those moments, he said, but to set tone rather than take centre stage. The focus stays on story and character, not on a set-piece track.

Fans will still spot a trace of the band. A poster for Old Gods of Asgard appears in Control Resonant. No music from the group is featured.

For fans, this means a quieter sequel. Video Games Chronicle gave Control Resonant, the second instalment in the Control series, 5 stars in its review.

It is also not the first recent Remedy game to leave the band out. The studio confirmed in May 2025 that its multiplayer spin-off FBC: Firebreak would not feature Old Gods of Asgard.
