Keanu Reeves in talks to lead Paramount's Gangster, Cop, Devil reimagining with James Wan directing

Keanu Reeves is in talks to star in Paramount Pictures' reimagining of The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, with James Wan set to direct.
The project is a new English-language take on the 2019 South Korean film of the same name, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Talks mean Reeves has not yet signed. No release date has been announced.
The story centres on a police officer and an organised crime boss who form an uneasy partnership to track down a serial killer. The original film premiered in the Midnight Screening section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. That late-night slot is reserved for genre films shown outside the main competition.
Don Lee, also known as Ma Dong-seok, led the original film and will return for the new version. He is on the call sheet, the list of confirmed cast, for the reimagining. If Reeves closes his deal, the two actors would lead the film together.
For Wan, it would be his next film as a director. He has not helmed a feature since 2023's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Wan is also producing through his Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner, with Michael Clear producing for the company.
Eric Pearson wrote the latest script. It builds on previous drafts by Shay Hatten and Brian Helgeland. The English-language reimagining was earlier described by Yahoo.
The producing team spans Hollywood and Korea. Don Lee is producing through Big Punch Global. Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller are producing through Balboa Productions, alongside Chris Lee of B&C Group, Jang Won-seok of BA Entertainment and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Reeves last starred in Outcome, the Apple TV dramedy directed by Jonah Hill. He also continues his relationship with Paramount as the voice of Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which the studio has dated for 19 March 2027. He is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
What makes this stand out is the mix of returning and new talent. One star is back in the same role. A director known for large-scale films steps in. And another star may soon join the hunt.
